The Best Craft Beer In Wellington
Wellington has one of the best craft beer scenes in New Zealand. Here's a guide to the top taprooms, brewery bars, and craft beer spots the capital has to offer.
Wellington punches well above its weight when it comes to craft beer. The capital’s compact, walkable city centre means you can cover an impressive number of excellent taprooms and brewery bars in a single evening. Here’s a guide to the best of them.
We have to start with Garage Project! Garage Project Aro Cellar Door is the original brewery and still the heart of the operation. You can taste a few beers and take away your favourites but if you want to drink in, the Garage Project Aro Taproom is a taproom and pub just a few doors up the road. Garage Project Wild Workshop Taproom & Cellar Door is where their wild and barrel-aged beers are made and poured and Garage Project Leeds Street is the newest and probably best spot to try their delicious beers!
Fork and Brewer is great for groups, with a large indoor and outdoor area, plenty of beers and a good location.
Heyday Beer Co is one of my regular spots, especially in the summer as they have a large outdoor seating area.
Parrotdog Brewery & Bar is a a bit further out but worth the trip. Their beers are often on the stronger side but full of flavour.
Three Sisters Brewery Ltd is a fairly new addition with some nice beers and decent food.
Double Vision Brewing covers all the bases — brewery, bar, and bottle shop under one roof.
Panhead Tory Street is the Wellington home of the beloved Kiwi brewery.
Mean Doses is a fun spot with some good beers.
Waitoa Victoria St and Waitoa Social Club are two spots from the same crew. The Victoria St location is central and has delicious Malaysian food.
Churly’s Willis Lane, Wellington is the Wellington outpost of the Behemoth Brewing family. If you’ve been to Churly’s in Auckland, you know what to expect — a solid pub experience with good beer and hearty food, tucked away in Willis Lane.
